Dr. Treece, showing her enthusiasm at her Global Specialty Lens Symposium
I was honored this past weekend to attend the Global Specialty Lens Symposium in Las Vegas! The great minds of the world gathered to discuss updates on specialty lens technology. This included soft contact lenses, gas permeable contact lenses, hybrid lenses, and scleral lenses.
Topics consisted of the phsycology behind the scleral lens fit, incorporating tomography/photography technology for evaluating these specialty lenses, using these lenses for myopia control in children and for ocular surface disease in adults, and trouble shooting and managing complications. It really was educational and awe-inspiring to be a part of.
This type of continuing education is critical. We, as doctors in an ever-changing field, should strive to constantly improve our skills and provide better care for our patients. I am blessed to be in a profession where lives are changed daily. I get to work with some of the most amazing patients, some of which have horrible vision, whether it’s from disease, surgery, trauma, etc. or discomfort from severe dry eye/ocular surface disease. To watch their faces change as their sight and comfort drastically improve thanks to the technology of these specialty lenses is incredible. This is my why. And here at Omni Eye Specialists, we are committed to practicing at the highest level possible.
